VietNamNet Bridge - The information was recently released by the Vietnamese Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs. In the future, the country will focus on exporting skilled laborers instead of manual laborers.
In Da Nang City, on April 24, the Ministry organized a conference on Creating jobs and the Law on overseas laborers under signed contracts. According to Mr Nguyen Dai Dong, Head of the Job Department under the Ministry, the country has sent over 160,000 laborers abroad on fixed term contracts, mainly farmers.
Besides the Malaysia and Taiwan markets, currently Vietnam has increased its overseas laborers in high-income countries like Japan and the Republic of Korea as well as expanded to new markets in the Middle East like UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Macao, Singapore, Australia and the US.
Vietnam also reopens the Czech Republic and Algeria labor markets and expecting to reach new ones in North and Central Europe.
“Every year, overseas laborers send around 1.7 billion USD back to the country. The capital is a good resource to contribute to national socio-economic development and create more jobs”, Mr Dong said.
However, the Ministry confirmed that the country’s labor export activity still faces a lot of challenges like weakness in issuing documents and the lack of strong, effective policies.
The quality of laborers does not meet the demand of some importers like foreign languages, skill, and awareness of legal compliance and the repercussions of breaking contracts. Vietnam still witnesses fraud and illegal labor exporting individuals and organizations. Mr Dong stressed the importance of supervising and inspecting sectors, especially job promotion and development.
In order to reach the target of sending abroad 400,000-500,000 laborers by 2010, the Ministry is enhancing solutions to stabilize and expand markets where Vietnam will get more benefits, focusing on markets using skilled laborers.
Vietnam needs to effectively teach foreign languages and raise awareness of industrial working environments for pre-departure laborers, as well as to offer them more assistance before, during and after departure. |
