LUANDA — Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh’s current visit to Angola has opened up a new period of friendship and co-operation between the Angolan MPLA Party and the Communist Party of Viet Nam, and between their respective countries and citizens.

This statement was made by Permanent Vice President of the Angolan MPLA Party Antonio Pitra Neto in Luanda on Thursday, while meeting with Party General Secretary Manh, who began an official State-level visit to the African country at the invitation of President Jose Eduardo dos Santos the day before.

The MPLA Party leader spoke highly of contributions by the Communist Party and people of Viet Nam to the world’s common struggle for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress.

He informed his guest of the Angolan party’s urgent tasks, particularly regarding preparations for the MPLA Party congress scheduled to take place later this year.

Manh said that solidarity, support and assistance from international friends such as the Angolan people had played an important role in Viet Nam’s achievements.

The host and his guest agreed to further enhance co-operative ties between the two Parties by increasing the exchange of visits, information and experiences in Party-building, as well as in promoting social, economic and cultural development.

Manh invited the leaders of the MPLA Party to visit Viet Nam at an appropriate time. He took the opportunity to present 50 computer sets produced by Viet Nam to the Angolan Party.

On the same day, Manh met Angolan National Assembly President Roberto de Almeida. The Angolan top legislator described the visit to Angola by the high-ranking delegation of Viet Nam as an important landmark, which he said would open up a new development stage in friendship and co-operation between the two countries.

Recalling his visit to Viet Nam in 2004, the Angolan NA President said he had been impressed with the land and people of Viet Nam, and greatly admired the country’s renewal achievements.

Manh affirmed that the two top legislative bodies of Viet Nam and Angola played an important role in the bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in the development of legal foundations and frameworks for the two countries’ stable and long-term relations.

Manh and NA President Roberto de Almeida agreed to enhance exchanges of friendly activities, experiences and information between the two top legislative bodies of Viet Nam and Angola, as well as to speed up the effective and practical co-operation and friendship between the two countries.

The Vietnamese Party leader took the occasion to convey Vietnamese NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong’s invitation for the Angolan NA President to visit Viet Nam at an appropriate time.

Later that day, the General Secretary met Angolan Prime Minister Fernando da Piedade Dias do Santos. The host highlighted the visit to Angola by Manh and his entourage as a pivotal milestone in the two countries’ relations.

The two sides agreed to increase the exchanges of delegations, experiences and information, and to soon implement agreements signed between the two countries for their effective co-operation, thus bringing in practical benefits for the two peoples, as well as contributing to peace, stability, co-operation and development within the region and the world.

In the evening, the MPLA Party Steering Committee presented a banquet in honour of Manh and his entourage. — VNS
